Une rencontre inspirante !
Stefanos est l’une de ces rencontres inspirantes qui motive notre voyage.
Nous sommes entrés par hasard dans sa boulangerie-pâtisserie, alléchés par les superbes baguettes dans sa vitrine. « Chouette, nous aurons un super petit-déjeuner pour demain matin », nous sommes-nous dit !
Rapidement, Stefanos nous demande d’où nous venons. À l’annonce de la réponse, il nous confie beaucoup aimer la France (en témoigne RFM qui tourne toute la journée dans les enceintes de sa boutique) et même avoir été étudier la boulangerie et la pâtisserie à St Malo et à Paris auprès de Thierry Marx. Ses produits sont d’ailleurs inspirés de recettes Françaises. Tout à l’air excellent et il entreprend de nous faire goûter ses spécialités; Chaussons aux pommes, revisite avec de la feta, flan pâtissier et nous offre même les croissants et pains au chocolat. Décidément le petit déjeuner va être royal !
Au fur et à mesure de la discussion il nous explique son récent changement de carrière. Auparavant capitaine de Super Tanker (bateau transportant du pétrole d’un pays à un autre), il décide à 40 ans passé de changer de vie et de faire un métier qui correspond à ses valeurs.
Soutenu par sa femme et ses trois enfants, il part en France se former à la pâtisserie. Il veut faire un métier honnête, quelque chose de vrai et de bon pour les gens. C’est, en quelque sorte, une façon inconsciente de se repentir, nous confie t-il.
Ce qui nous touche dans son parcours, en plus du courage et de l’exemple de travail acharné qu’il représente, c’est la bonté et la passion dans ses propos et dans sa démarche.
« La règle de base si tu veux être cuisinier; donner à manger au gens, c’est que tu dois être honnête. Tu dois penser à la santé, à ce que tu donnes à tes clients. »
Nous avons été touché par sa dévotion à son métier. Vouloir offrir le meilleur, simplement le meilleur. Il choisit ses ingrédients avec un soin tout particulier, adapte ses recettes pour que celles-ci soient le plus local possible, le plus éthique possible.
Son entreprise est en pleine ascension mais il décline toutes propositions d’agrandissement qui lui ferait perde sa production artisanale. Faire des milliers d’euros ne l’intéresse pas, ce qu’il veut c’est offrir une expérience unique à chaque client et conserver la relation qu’il a avec ceux-ci.
Pourtant loin de se reposer sur ses acquis, Stefanos à encore des milliers de projets dans la tête qu’il attend avec impatience de réaliser dans les années à venir.
Aujourd’hui à la tête d’une entreprise employant plus de 10 personnes et sortant environ 500 kg de délicieux pain tous les jours, il a sûrement gagné son pari. Faire du bien aux gens !

Land Rover, a big family

Following the misadventure in Milan, we were looking to change our lead screws. It was in Slovenia, after noticing that our steering rod was loose, that we decided to seek the help of a specialist. A quick search on the internet later and we are in front of a large portal supposed to be the headquarters of a Land Rover Club, the only establishment that seems to meet our needs.
A person opens to us, we explain our problem.
It is Yanez, a man in his sixties, who is in fact the ex-secretary of the Slovenian Land Rover club. Never mind, he goes to get a torque wrench to tighten the rod. After a few exchanges, he invites us to have an aperitif at his place the same evening. He is going to France soon, it will be an opportunity to exchange our good addresses and talk Defender!
We spend an excellent evening in his company and meet his wife Barbara. Both have traveled a lot in their Defender and are only waiting for retirement age to set off again.
One thing leading to another, the boys open the hood of César and find that we are missing the engine and turbo gaskets. Neither one nor two of us were in his attic looking for missing parts and lead hand screws.
We are entering Ali Baba's cave! We came across THE specialist!
It's late and we prefer to postpone the assembly of the parts until tomorrow.
The next morning, 11 a.m., we were there. Yanez is very busy but he took the time to integrate us into his schedule.
Surprise ! One of the lead screw didn't just fall out, the head broke off and the rest got stuck in the hubs. We have to remove the wheel, disassemble the brake disc and the hubs, re-drill the screw stuck in the thread and remove the residue from it using a tap.
In the end, we will spend 6 hours at Yanez, installation of engine trim and turbo included.
We were embarrassed by the time he had to spend helping us but he told us that "If you like Defenders, then you know you have to spend time on them".
We think that the project of such a long trip with a vehicle that he loves so much, pushed him to give us a hand, even if it means spending the day there.
This is the second time we have faced the kindness and spontaneous help of "landistes" and it warms our hearts to discover this real family, ready to help you wherever you are.

Stage in Milan - August 6, 2022
Our guardian angel
We can't talk about our time in Milan without talking about Jeroen! He is our guardian angel! We had just spent two nights in a secure motorhome area north of Milan. On the departure, we stop to recharge our water tank at the reception, before taking the road to Florence.
It was then that Jeroen, who until then had been drinking his coffee 20m away, called out to us. He points out to us that the screws of our leading hands (which literally holds our wheel hooked) are so loose that they almost fall off. We therefore realize that not only are they loose but that we have already lost 2 of the 5 initials.
Neither one nor two, we gave a few keys.
We then spoke with him and learned that he is a mechanic in the Netherlands and that he owns a Land Rover Discovery.
The likelihood of him being in our path was slim, but we thank the Holy Spirit for having met him. The worst has potentially been avoided thanks to him!
